Mozambique Missions Trip (June 26-July 5, 2009)

Trip Details
Nine men from our local church in Potchefstroom South Africa traveled to Mozambique to assist New Tribes Missionaries Francois Hattingh, Phil Henderson, and their families. We were near Pebane, Mozambique (marked on the map at right). It was a ten day trip. We did manual labor once we arrived. I was also assigned to cooking meals with my brother.

Zimbabwe
Our route to Mozambique took us through Zimbabwe, which was an educational, cultural experience. Because of the state of Zimbabwe at the time, we brought all of our drinking water and gasoline for the trip with us from South Africa.

Schedule

June 26 (Friday): We would like to depart as early as possible, but realize that we would only be able to leave once the scholars are finished with school. Currently we would like to leave at 12:00pm (at the latest).
The current plan is to sleep in tents on a farm near Mussina.

June 27 (Saturday): We depart as early as possible and travel through Zimbabwe and aim for Gondola, where we plan to sleep at a suggested missionary station.

June 28 (Sunday): We head for Pebane and will be crossing the great Zambezi by ferry. At the ferry for the Zambezi crossing there may be a long wait. Crossing time can vary from 2 – 8 hours depending on if the ferry is in working order. We'll be prepared to sleep at the ferry if we don’t make it on before nightfall. (Pray hard)

June 28 (Sunday) – July 3 (Friday): Helping at the base near Pebane.

July 4 (Saturday): Depart very early and head for the Zimbabwean border. We have a very good camping spot in mind, but still need to confirm the final booking.

July 5 (Sunday): Drive through Zimbabwe and all the way home…
